The Society of...

The Society of Bread & Roses

  • Date: Thursday, March 7, 2019
  • Time: 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Description: St Isabel’s Parish is pleased to announce the formation of a Women’s Ministry Society.
The name is based on the miracle of our patron saint, St Isabel of Portugal.

While taking bread, hidden in her apron, to feed the hungry, which was forbidden even though she was Queen, she was stopped by guards who demanded to see what she was hiding in her apron. When she opened it, it was filled with roses, saving her from harm.

The mission of this ministry will be based on the motto, Friendship, Faith and Charity, and is founded upon the symbols of St Isabel’s miracle. The Bread represents Acts of Charity and Hospitality and a devotion to the Holy Eucharist. The Roses represent Women of Virtue who come together for spiritual renewal, friendship and support for one another, and love of our parish. There will be monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month and some of the activities of this Ministry will include spiritual activities, such as retreats, Masses and novenas, helping with parish events and liturgical ministries, and fundraising for St Isabel Parish and other charitable causes.

Please consider coming to the meeting on March 7 at 9:30 AM for some fellowship, food and fun and to find out more about The Bread and Roses Society.

WOMEN OF PRAYE...

WOMEN OF PRAYER

  • Date: Friday, March 8, 2019
  • Time: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
  • Description: COME AND JOIN OUR PRAYER GROUP!
Pope Francis has called all of us in the Catholic Church to spend more time in prayer. We need prayers for ourselves, our families, our priests, our church, our country and our world.
For this reason, we would like to begin a St. Isabel Women’s Prayer Group. The purpose of the group is to join together as a community of women in prayer and to come before God and ask for mercy, forgiveness and peace. Beginning this November, this group will meet the second Friday of each month to spend time before God in prayer. We will begin at 8:30 Mass, attend the rosary and adoration and then we will go to either the cry room off the narthex or into the hall. Fr. Joseph will begin this part of our time together with a reflection that will be directed especially to women and our spiritual journey. We will then share our personal intentions for the month and any special prayers that we may say each day and maybe talk about experiences that we had during the month that brought us closer to God. Our personal intentions can include prayers for members of our family and friends or for anything else that is weighing heavy on our mind. We will then end with a group prayer and song.
Our time together will be from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m. and all women in the parish are invited. Please pray about it and ask God if this is something that He would like you to do. There are no sign up sheets or dues or requirements. You just show up to pray. We know that there is power in prayer and Jesus told us in the Gospel of Matthew, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” (Mt 18:20) and in the Gospel of Mark, “So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mk 11:24)
The first date the prayer group will meet will be Friday, November 9. Please mark your calendar for that date and for every other 2nd Friday of the month through April.
