Sacraments

Sacramental Policy

Sanibel is a beautiful place, and St. Isabel is a lively parish.  Because  of this, we often receive requests from people who are not registered members  of our parish community to celebrate baptisms, weddings, or "destination weddings" here  on Sanibel.  Sacraments are intended to  be celebrated in the context of a faith community if they are to be protected  from the taint of superstition.   Furthermore, the celebration of any sacrament presumes the practice of the faith, which, in the case of baptism, gives the church every assurance that  the child to be baptized will be raised Catholic.  It does a disservice to the sacrament when it  is celebrated without the serious intention of practicing one’s faith.  Parish registration helps to insure that  individuals are an active part of a faith community, and affords them the  opportunity to be a support to that faith community, not only through their  financial contributions but also through their active participation.  It is because of this broader theological understanding of the sacraments that St. Isabel only accepts requests for baptisms and weddings from registered and active parishioners. Please call the Parish office at 472-2763.Couples seeking to be married at Saint Isabel will need to begin preparation our priest at least 6 months prior to their wedding.  Couples should be registered and actively practicing parishioners at St. Isabel for at least twelve months before seeking to be married at St. Isabel.  St. Isabel does not accommodate non-parishioners or those couples that are related to parishioners (who are registered and actively practicing at St. Isabel); this includes parents and/or grandparents of the bride or groom.

Infant Baptism: It is recommended that parents contact the Parish Office about requirements for baptism before the birth of a child. Infant baptism will be scheduled only after consultation with a Parish Priest.

Marriage: Couples should contact the Parish Office.

Sacrament of the Sick: If you are not well, or when you know that you will be in the hospital, please ask the priest to confer the Sacrament of the Sick after the weekday or Sunday Masses, or call the Parish Priest to make an appointment. We offer the Anointing of the Sick the First Friday of the month at the 8:30 AM Mass.
